Mr. Buche earned his law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas and his undergraduate degree in Biology from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

John Buche was raised in San Angelo, Texas and currently lives in San Diego.
Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Buche enjoys surfing, sailing, snow skiing, martial arts, travel, and the study of language.
Scott Compton is ‘of counsel’ to Buche & Associates, P.C. Mr. Compton is an intellectual property specialist in Houston and his practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, trademarks, copyrights and related business matters.
Mr. Compton brings considerable experience in the realms of:
- Acquiring national and international patents and trademarks
- Intellectual property litigation
- Intellectual property licensing
- Preparing various contracts and handling other transactional legal matters
Mr. Compton has been involved in all aspects of helping inventors to protect their inventions, having worked in a wide variety of industries including drilling fluids and oil field technologies; materials sciences, including nanomaterials, microencapsualtion, polymer technologies; and protection of general mechanical devices.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Compton worked as a graduate assistant in the chemical division at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, where his research concentrated on Coatings Technology for the U.S. Air Force; conductive polymers, and bioactive glasses.
Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Compton is a dedicated athlete. Mr. Compton was a Professional Baseball player with the L.A. Dodgers Organization and is son of former major league catcher Mike Compton. Scott was raised in Odessa, Texas.
Mr. Compton is admitted to practice in all Texas Courts and is a Registered Patent Attorney. Scott earned his law degree from South Texas College of Law; he holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas and a Master of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Texas - San Antonio.
Sean Sullivan is an associate of Buche & Associates, P.C. Currently, Sean handles civil litigation, intellectual property, and business transaction matters. During his time with the firm, Sean has represented clients in a variety of intellectual property and complex commercial litigation matters, including patent, trademark, trade dress, and copyright infringement lawsuits. Sean has also been instrumental in securing successful outcomes for, among others, clients accused of patent infringement in the medical device and semiconductor industries. On the transactional side, Sean’s experience includes advising businesses on a variety of issues commonly faced in today’s marketplace, such as maximizing broad intellectual property portfolios, obtaining favorable licensing agreements, and various other contractual matters.
Sean earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law. While in law school, Sean received various honors, including "Outstanding Appellate Brief" in legal research and writing, and received highest-grade awards in Copyright Law, Contract Law, and Real Estate Finance. Sean also served as both a teaching assistant in Contract Law, and as a summer research assistant to Prof. Edmund Ursin, and spent a summer studying comparative law at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, Sean moved to San Diego to earn his Bachelors in Biology at the University of San Diego. Prior to attending law school, Sean worked for a biotech company in San Diego which produces reagents, such as monoclonal antibodies, for use in immunology and molecular biology research.

Bryce Johnson is an associate of Buche & Associates, P.C. and his practice focuses on obtaining patents, trademarks and copyrights.
Bryce attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and Order of the Coif. Mr. Johnson clerked for Buche & Associates, P.C. during law school, where he worked with complex patent prosecution as well as patent, trademark and copyright litigation. Mr. Johnson earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2005. Prior to attending law school, Bryce worked as a chemical engineer in the construction and development of a heavy metal treatment site that removed Selenium from farm irrigation runoff.
As an attorney, Bryce has written patent applications for a variety of technologies including, but not limited to games, consumer devices, tools, material handling apparatus, and electronic devices. Mr. Johnson speaks conversational Tagalog.
Mark Vasallo is of counsel to Buche & Associates, P.C. and has a broad base of experience representing individuals, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies which allows him to provide clients with comprehensive legal counseling. Mark practiced as a litigator at a top U.S. law firm, Cozen O'Connor, with over 550 attorneys in 23 offices worldwide. He has also served as in-house counsel to the nation's 4th largest student financial services firm, with over $9 Billion in assets. Mark concentrates his practice on litigation and dispute resolution matters, as well as tax controversy, intellectual property and corporate transactional matters.
Mark's litigation practice has focused primarily on business disputes, product liability, construction defect, contract matters, torts, and negligence. Having worked on the $3.55 Billion litigation claim involving the World Trade Center disaster, as well as numerous claims in excess of $10 Million, Mark has the experience to handle litigation matters of any size. Licensed to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, Mark has also defended numerous corporate and individual clients against I.R.S. actions, successfully reducing claimed taxes and penalties.
As a corporate attorney, Mark has counseled on securitization of over $5 Billion in asset backed securities, purchase and sale of private held companies, and mergers and acquisitions. Mark has extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including purchasing, sales, leasing, licensing, marketing, employment, settlement agreements, and confidentiality agreements. He has also advised clients on trademark, insurance, and employment matters.
Graduating in the top 5% of his class with a B.S. in Zoology from Auburn University, Mark started his career in the biological sciences. Mark earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from The University of Miami School of Law. Attending on an academic scholarship, he was Executive Editor of the Inter-American Law Review and worked for the Federal Court in the chambers of The Honorable William C. Turnoff, Southern District of Florida.

Randi Higley is a paralegal at Buche & Associates, P.C.
She earned her paralegal certificate from the University of San Diego graduating with honors from the business litigation program.
Randi has a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a minor in Spanish from the California State University of Long Beach. While obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree, Randi studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain at the University of Barcelona, and again in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the University of Belgrano.
Randi returned to Argentina after obtaining her BA. She lived and worked there for 2 years before returning to her hometown of San Diego last December.
Randi speaks fluent Spanish.
